General Description
Hastelloy C276 alloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium wrought alloy which has exceptional resistance to many of the most severe media. Hastelloy C276 is an improved version of Hastelloy C and has improved fabricability.
Alloy C276 has exceptional resistance to many of the most severe media encountered in chemical processing, including reducing and oxidizing acids, highly oxidizing neutral and acid chlorides, solvents, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, wet chlorine gas, hypochlorites, and chlorine solutions. It has excellent resistance to phosphoric acid. Alloy C276 also resists sulfide stress cracking and stresscorrosion cracking in sour gas environments containing hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and chlorides.
Hastelloy C276 is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encountered in most scrubbers. Alloy C276 has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress corrosion cracking. It is also one of the few materials that withstand the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide.
